How To Get Kids To Do Chores

Trying to get your child to do chores may or may not be a chore in itself, depending on that child. You have to find chores that are age appropriate for the child. You can not tell a 5 year old child to go ahead and do all the dishes, vacuum and clean the bathroom. Think about it who does like doing chores? Kids hate doing them for the same reason that adults hate doing them as well. House work is plain and simply boring and is not something you want to do on your day off from work or school.

But as children have to learn the only way that they will learn every day life things is by doing their chores, if they do not want to follow what you are asking them to do then at first they should get a warning and if they still refuse to do what you are asking them then further actions should be taken. Things such as loss of their games, toys, phone, computer, television, I pods or anything else they value. Now if your child is very stubborn and still will not do what they have to with the loss of their things then punishment should take action. Things such as grounding the child to the corner or their room, not letting them go some place they want to, not having friends over, and so on.

The first thing about getting kids to do chores

In order to teach kids to do chores, they need to understand accountability. In order to understand accountability, they need to understand time. They should be able to read a clock, even if it is just digital. They must be able to do basic addition and subtraction, to know how much time they have. They should have a feel for how long time is. Using tv shows is a good way to help them gauge time. You can try to get them to do chores before they understand time and accountability, but you shouldn't really expect them too. If anything you are just planting the seeds for the idea of them having do chores. But once they have a good handle on math and time, you can start in with the accountability. Before that all you can really do is try to get them to do chores and reward them when they do.

Ways to Get Your Kids to do Chores

Here are some ways that may help in getting your child to do their chores.
1. Try to sit them down and explain things to them and let them talk back to you. You can not just have a one way conversation. This will make a child agitated and feel like they have no say in anything.
2. Give them a time frame that the chore has to be done in. For example tell them they have to have 20 minutes till they have to clean their room. If they are not in there by then give them 1 warning and if they still do not want to do it make them go to bed early.
3. Try making a game out of it tell them let me see if you can clean your toys up in 10 minutes I will time you and check if it is done right. I want to see how well and fast you can be at this.
4. Make a chore chart for them using gold stars, stickers or let them choose what they want to use. For every chore they do and do right they get a certain amount of (lets just use stickers) at the end of the week they can get a prize if they have a good number of stickers on that chart. Or if they have done every single thing you have asked take them some place special.
5. Work with them when they have to do chores by doing your at the same time they are. Let them know it is chore time for the both of you and maybe you guys could help each other out and share chores.
6. For younger kids try making a song up for chores they have to do such as cleaning up their room. I use the song clean up, clean up every body every where clean up clean up every body do your share and my kids love it.
