Board Games That Help Develop Language Trying to better your child's language but you have to fight with them to do homework or assignments you have put together for them. It may become World War II all over again in your home with screaming, yelling, stomping around because they can not get the hang of the assignments. This may push the child away from learning which is not helping at all. That is the last thing you want to do. Being pushy with the child will only push them further and further away from learning. Instead why not make it fun. Make a game out of learning. You and the child can play different board games that help develop language. The more you make things fun and not dreadful the more your child will want to learn.

Best Board Games For Developing Language

  • Mad gab. You have to have teams and the youngest one is to start. You pick one to be the reader this should be the child. Then one to be a stealer. You take 3 cards from the mad gab box, this is the readers job. Show everyone except you the 3 answers on the cards and the stealer is not to look at them either. The other team then flips the timer. You now have to read all of the clues to the team over and over again. Say phrases that may help answer the right answer. If it is answered right then you move on, however if they are not all answered then the stealer of the other team gets a shot to answer them.
  • Taboo This is a word game that you have to have your partner try to guess the word that is on the card without using the word at all. You can do gestures or other verbal clues to help them along but that is it.
  • Scrabble This board game is where you have a tray of letters in front of you and on the board is squares with numbers you have to make words out of the letters given to you and others build words off of the word you started. Each time you make a word you add up the points shown in each square. The object is to have the most points. This games helps you spell words as well.
  • Word Up There is a game board and each player throws the dice, count how many spaces then move that many spots. You will land on a certain category. Those are missing word, crossword clues, multiple choice, and spelling. If you get the answer right you will receive a token. Now the person that earns 2 token for each different category is the winner.
  • Buzzword Divide everyone into two teams. When it is your team's turn, one person will have to give clues to 10 words. The cards say its "buzzword". Other people on your team have to solve each clue by saying the phrases that includes the buzzword. The other team has to keep track of the time and the clues that were not gotten. Score one point for each right answered clue. The person that is giving the clues reads the clues that were not answered to the other team, giving them a shot to get it. The team that gets fifty points will win the game. Here is the catch though, You only get 45 seconds to finish your answers to questions which some are very easy, while others are harder to get.

This is just a short list of board games that help develop language skills and have a ton of fun doing so. Not to mention this also gives you quality time with your child and a bunch of laughs as well. Enjoy your learning time with them. I mean game time!
