Introducing Solid Foods To Babies

Normally the doctors say between 3 to 5 months but I personally did what I thought was the best for my babies. They both were eating formula with cereal at roughly three months. They were showing signs of still being hungry so I gave it to them. It did fill them up and they even slept better. A short time after that is when i started to give them jarred baby foods.

How do I introduce solid food to my baby

When you are going to start them on solid foods the best thing to do is sit them totally up right so this way they do not choke on it. The doctors say try avocado,sweet potato, banana or pear first. I personally did vegetables so they didn't get the sweet stuff first then not want to eat the other because it didn't have a delicious taste like the other foods they had already tried. I gave them a jar of carrots first then gave them the same thing for four days straight before moving on to a different food. I did this to make sure they weren't allergic to what i was giving them. After I knew it was okay I went to the next vegetable and did the same thing again for four days. After I let them try all the different vegetables then I did the fruit. The meat I left till last because it is a little harder for a baby to digest it and also doesn't taste nearly as good as the other foods.

How will I know that my baby is ready for solid foods

1. They will be hungry more frequently.
2. They may start to get up in the middle of the night because they are hungry.
3. They will try to grab for whatever you are eating .
4. They can sit up on their own
5. You will see them making chewing motions.
6. If you see a rapid gain in weight

These are just some of the ways you will know that your baby is ready to move on to bigger and better food items. If your baby gets full you will know it. This is when you will see them start to push food out of their mouth with their tongue and spit it out. When you are introducing them to new things you may want to go out and get baby spoons, forks and plates so they can try to do it themselves. Also if you do not have one you may want to pick up a small high chair with a tray so you can place the food on the tray and let the baby do it for themselves.This is a very fun time for the both of you so enjoy every moment with them it fly's by very quickly and before you know it they will be eating everything that you are.
