This is an image of a painting of a girlTalking to your children about puberty is a very important topic to discuss as soon as you can. Today there is so much hype about sex and things of that nature, you do not want your child subjected to that in society. As their parents we are the ones that want to talk to them about this. Some people may be embarrassed and not know how to talk to their child about puberty, but think about how they may feel as well. All you can do is tell them everything honestly and know if you do not do this they may find out in a way that you do not want them to. You also do not want to wait until they come to you and ask questions.

What Age Is Appropriate To Talk To A Girl About Puberty

Well with both boys and girls the earlier the better but you want to start to talk to them about menstruation before they start getting their period. So on an average 9 or 10 years of age is roughly the right time. If the child is not aware of this and prepared when it happens, they may think something is wrong with them and freak out, especially seeing blood coming from that region. You may want to get a doll of sorts that will let you show them how to use pads as well as a tampon, my suggestion though is explain that pads are the best route to go until they are a bit older in age, about 16 years old if at all possible. The average girl will get her period about 12 years old, some start as early as 9, while others may be late bloomers as late as 16 years old. Same goes for when they should start to wear a training bra, even if their breasts have not quite started to develop yet. A good age to get them one would be about 9 years old. But if they should be early in age then sooner. This will get her used to wearing them and adjust to a new thing on her body. Just a few more things girls should be told about is as they get older they will start to change odors as well so showering more frequently is a must, introducing them to deodorant, body sprays and feminine powders. Another thing you will have to show them is how to start shaving their legs and arm pits. They will probably think that the thought of unwanted body hair is a gross thing but it is a part of growing up and hitting puberty!

What Age Is Appropriate To Talk To A Boy About Puberty

Boys usually start going through puberty later then girls do. They usually start roughly about 12 years old. There are less things that you have to explain to a boy as well. The first thing that they should know about is getting an erection and ejaculation. They may wake up one morning with an erection and have no clue as to what is going on or wake up from having a wet dream, which is something that has excited them while they are asleep and wake up with semen on them. You do not want them to think that they have urinated while they slept or think they have done something wrong. Telling them that it is a natural thing that happens in males as they get older and there is nothing wrong with it. But try and talk to them before this happens as I said so they are not frightened about what is happening. This is the time where you will want to talk to them about sex as well and the use of a condom. You can get a banana or cucumber and show them how to apply it. You will want to tell them, some boys may start earlier being as young as 9, while others start 12 years old. Boys also go through voice changes they will start to get squeaky and their voice will crack, then start to get deeper. Just a few other things you may want to talk to them about is as they get older they will start to get body hair and this may start about 12 or so . When this happens they tend to have body odor so again showering more frequently is a must along with starting to use a deodorant and body spray. Before they start getting facial hair you will want to teach them about shaving their face and using shaving cream and after shave. Chances are the first few times they may cut themselves trying, just explain that is normal as well.

This is an image of a painting of a boySome schools do offer a sexual education class and it is great to let your child become involved in this class to further their education on puberty. This also may help in things you may have either forgotten to talk to them about or just has slipped your mind. but becoming even more educated about this is never a bad thing. The more they are educated the better knowledge they will have and the more cautious they will be no girl wants to have a baby at 12 or wind up catching some kid of sexually transmitted disease and same goes for a boy as well.
