Baby Finger Foods

As new parents we tend to worry about everything our children eat. Even if you are not a new parent, we all worry about what is in the best interest of our children. One big question is when is it okay to start giving my child finger foods. For the first at least 6 months we are us to just giving them their bottle or breast feeding. Now that they are getting older and bigger the formula or breast milk just isn't enough to keep them full.

What are baby finger foods

Baby finger foods are foods that your baby is able to pick up and put in their mouth by themself. This is also a great way to teach them independence and refine motor skills, along with coordination.

3. Any Fruit that has been peeled, pitted and cut up.
4. cooked pasta. cut into pieces
5. small pieces of cheese
6. cut up hard boiled egg
7. Raisins, dried fruits
8. Any of the cookies or puffs that are in the stores that are made for babys
9. Cooked vegetables cut up
10. Cooked and cut up small pieces of tender meats
11. rice cakes or crackers broken up

These are the most healthiest things to give your baby as finger foods. One thing you always want to know if you are going to give any of these things to your baby please make sure you are staying in the room with them while they eat even though most of these things are soft and cut up they may still choke on them some how. You can never be to careful when it comes to a child choking on something.

At What Age should I Give My Baby Finger Foods

Babies are normally ready to try finger foods between the ages of 6 to 9 moths depending. Some start earlier, while others take their time and may be later. But whatever age they are you will know they are ready when they try to take the spoon or fork you are feeding them with and try to do it themselves. Or when they try to take food off the plate to feed themselves.

How do I introduce my baby to finger foods?

They are good for babies because they have vitamins and also the hole in the center is a good choice of snack if they should choke the hole will prevent them from choking. When they are trying finger foods for the first 2 weeks stick with the same thing you are giving them just to make sure they are not allergic to what you are giving them and if they should be you will know right away what it was they can no longer have. Give them about 3 small pieces of whatever it is you starting them on and see how they do. if they eat all of it you can give them more. If they cannot eat it try something else a little later. Your child will want to smash the food in his or her hands and make a complete mess, do not try to stop them this is how they experiment and learn. They will also taste and may smell what it is you gave them. You will find them laughing about what they did and there is nothing wrong with that. That is why you have a bath tub. A little mess will never hurt anyone.
