The younger your child or children are the easier it is if you are getting a divorce. Then as they get to a certain age and start asking questions it will be much easier to explain to them. But if you have a child that is older in age this may be more difficult for you and more so for them to handle. A child may blame them selves for this. they may blame you. Or they may just plain out blame every one and anything for it. You and your ex need to come to some kind of civil agreement. This really is not for you and them but it is for the children so it makes it easier for them to handle. A child will not be ok with things if they see that you guys are fighting real bad, saying nasty things to one another, or just plain out being mean. You need to treat the child as though they are an adult and sit down with the both parents and child or children that are involved and try to explain things to them in the best way that they will understand things. Another thing to remember is that you have to be fully honest with them and let them know that any question they may have they are ok to ask it.
Some random suggestions on to do's and not to do's for how to tell your kids about divorce.
Ultimately, no matter what is going on you really have to try hard to keep things as calm as possible for your children during this time. They may not take very well to what is going on and this will be when they do need you the most, so do not be selfish and inconsiderate of the way your child feels. Work with your children through the divorce process the best that you possibly can, as this was certainly not their decision.
