I think that vintage punk clothing kind of reminds me of the way people dressed back in the 1980s. With the Mohawks, plaid clothing, tons of make up and jewelry and the hardcore rebel attitudes they had. Personally i like this look a lot. This look just tells people that they do not care what others think of the way they dress and that it does not make a difference as to what others say about it they are going to dress this way any how! A few words that were famous amongst the punk people were oi, uber and of course the phrase hard core.
Punkers were very loud and rowdy. Most if not all punks were all about anarchy, which is the lack of authority, order and the liking of chaos. The music developed between 1974 and 1976. The punk rock songs were shorter then other genres of music. And their instruments were not in the least big new or extravagant. It only really consisted of 1 or 2 electric guitars, an electric bass and maybe a drum set or drum kit. When they sung it did sound good but was mostly screaming and yelling about rebellion, anarchy and things that had to do with being against the government.
There was a woman named Dame Vivienne Westwood, she was a British fashion designer that had brought the modern punk fashion to the mainstream. She has 5 shops, 3 are in London and 1 in leeds and also one in Milan. She had been very interested in this fashion design so much that she started her own and it took off extremely well!
People of the punk fashion era chose ripped up old clothing with tears, holes, bondage straps, chains, studs, safety pins and anything else they could use to hold it together. They also chose to shop at thrift stores, flea markets, second had shops and making their own things. Some of the men wore knee length skirts, but a lot of them were kilts. Again it was all about being an individual and not caring a bit of what others think. If they liked it they wore it. This is the way that I am and others should be. To many people care way to much about what others think and feel about them. You are not out to please others. If you worry what others think if you do not have some kind of expensive name brand on or that your shirt is full of holes and you have a bunch of piercings and pink hair then this look is not at all for you.
Bondage straps, chains, trash bags, tape, razor blades, spiked dog collars and wrist bands were just some of the things they used to make their accessories or bought them this way. If you think about it punk rockers were very thrifty and saved tons of money this way, just using simple basic things around the home to incorporate in to their attire. They did this for thir musical equipment as well. Below are a few different images of the way punkers dressed and still do today!
