1940's Swing Skirts

Back in the 1940s women wore swing skirts that were to the knee or a little longer. They were very 'flowy' and light material. This was so when they went out dancing and either did a twirl the skirt would go around too, or if you are dancing with another person you can dance and move in it.

What is a 1940's Swing Skirt?

The 1940 swing skirt has a round cut design to look nice when they were dancing and twirling around. These types of skirts were worn by women that were on dance floors with uniformed men. House wives wore them as well but theirs were more conservative with either polka dots on them or a floral design. They had big bands or belts that went around the waist or just under the bust line. This may be part of the skirt or it can be added for extra look. Normally there are 2 panels to this skirt. One for when they do a spin and you can see the under side of the skirt and the top of it as well flowing out. Another thing what was popular among the woman was a sailors uniform either in black or navy blue.

Swing skirts were a fun thing for women to wear being as though first off they were shorter then what thy were us to wearing and second because of how they would flare out as they spun around. Not all women felt that way however some women didn't like the fact that you could see all of that leg and that the skirt puffed as you spun. These were the type of women that were very conservative and in my eyes sticklers for fun.
