The 1950's was the era where women wore very Lucite jewelery. This means the material of the jewelery is a see through and plastic material. It is made to look as though it is crystal with a much lighter feeling to it. Also the women were in to necklaces that had multiple strands and big beads on them. Most women liked their jewelery to be big and very noticeable to others.
I am all about big rings and jewelery. Most of the 1950's vintage rings are really big and very noticeable. As I said above they used Lucite for a good deal of their jewelery even the rings they wore. They made Lucite rings clear and also many other colors that were transparent. The Lucite confetti was a neat style for a ring. This was a clear material with chips of silver inside of it so it looked as though it was confetti. The women of the 50s liked diamonds as well because of the Lucite look to them. They did not necessarily have to be real diamonds. The women of 1950's used a lot of costume jewelery.
The necklaces of the 50s were also big and people wanted them to be noticed. They had big and colorful designs. Big solid beaded necklaces that were see through and plastic were a popular style for 50's necklaces. The women had also gotten into the necklaces that had multiple strands. As we still do now women wanted their jewelery to be noticed by others. The 50s style vintage jewelry I personally think was very unique and pretty. Women were also into the white style jewelery. Like a solid white necklace with some kind of design on it. To me some of the necklaces looked a little like chandeliers.
Even the earrings for the 50s were on the big and dangling side. Women just all around wanted their jewelry to be noticed by others. They did not have a whole lot of money so most of the jewelery that was worn was costume. Now don't get me wrong not all of it was costume. Some women had the money to get real jewelery this size but it was not likely. To this day women still love to wear 5's inspired vintage earrings.
