But as we approach that age, our fitness becomes all the more important. This is why it is good (especially as we get older), to have an array of fitness ideas for seniors so that we can stay in shape and be healthy in our later years. There are days when we can not even get out of bed to do anything, but those are the times you should really try to even if it a little bit without over doing it. You do not want to harm yourself in the process. Trying to stay in shape increases the heart rate and blood flow, it prevents other health issues, it will keep the bones from contracting (this means the muscle stiffens up and over time you can no longer move that limb and it gets stuck in a certain position), this will get you up and motivated to doing things for the day and in the end you will just over all feel good about yourself that you are on a good path to staying healthy. Again if you are limited as to what you can do just do a little at a time even small things will keep you up and going. I will post up a list of different things you can do to stay and remain healthy and up beat.

Good Reasons for Seniors to stay in shape

In addition to the obvious health reasons, there are social and emotional reasons that make exercise for seniors a worth wile activity. Exercising releases endorphins and has a chemical effect that makes us feel happier and more alive. So this will improve the emotional and mental health of seniors. Unfortunately, they are most at risk of being left alone (generally speaking). So, exercise can help to combat that.

There is also a social benefit. Senior citizens that stay in shape will be more likely to have more social interaction with other people. They will be able to make new friends because they are out there in public exercising. Also, they will have a social platform for meeting new friends that are also senior citizens, because they will have knowledge of good exercise practices for seniors, and they can share this with other seniors. Two seniors who are experienced in senior citizen exercise will have loads to talk about, and can even exercise together!

So here are some leads on good exercise practices for seniors.

    Cardiovascular training:
  • This is a type that gets you breathing
  • getting you to breathe more oxygen will make you burn more fuel quicker
  • swimming, biking, power walking, jogging, hiking, and running are good cardiovascular training for senior citizens
  • dancing, sports, and different kinds of martial arts are good cardiovascular activities for seniors that also lend to being social activities.

Other Fitness Ideas for Senior Citizens

Doing different weight lifting exercises are great for building strength and muscle up. Balancing workouts energize physical fitness, doing things like leg lifts, arm lifts, knee crunches, sitting at a machine with weights and doing arm, and leg curls of sorts. Different kinds of stretching helps the body get ready for your workout so you want to do stretches before you start your workout and do some more in the middle then a little more at the end the more you stretch the more your body can last.

If you keep with a consistent regiment you are sure to notice a difference in your physical, emotional and mental states. Exercising will get you feeling great in no time. You just have to make a list of different exercises to do each day you do not have to make these lists hours long it can be only 35 minutes if that is all you can do. Those 35 minutes would be more than enough to get your body going!
