How To Get Rid Of Fever Blisters

Does your lip look as though you have been hit with something? All you can think of is oh my how on earth am I going to get rid of this terrible fever blister on my mouth. Well one thing I can tell you is that you will not be able to get rid of it in just a few small hours. I will tell you different things you can use that will make them go away either in a day or a few days.

Getting Rid Of A Fever Blister

1. First off you never ever want to make the blister any more moist then it is so do not try and use chap stick, lip balm or gloss. The other thing you want to remember is to never try and pop them. This will only cause more irritation to it. Licking the blister will make it crack open and burn more.
2. If you need a fast and quick remedy to get rid of the blister in a day or so then you can try toothpaste of any kind and salt. Get a bowl and squeeze about two small strips of paste in into it. Then get salt and pour some in. The mixture should be grainy. Not smooth you do not want all the salt dissolving. It should remain a thick and textured paste. Clean the blister with rubbing alcohol. Than take a Q-tip or your finger and smear the paste you made all over the blister. It will harden on the area. Go to bed and when you get up wash the mixture off the blister. You will see that the lip may be more swollen then before but this is okay. Just wait an hour or so you will notice the blister has dried out and formed a crust around it. do not pick it or eat things that may make the mouth stretch.
3. Valtrex is not an over the counter fever blister cream that will help make them go away. Now it is not a cure to make them completely stop coming but it will make them go away when they do appear.
4. Abreva is a non prescription medication. This medication helps prevent the blister from attacking healthy parts of the lip and will reduce the blister. However it will not make them permanently go away.
5. If you have an Aloe Vera plant you can break off the leaves and rub the aloe gel right on to the area and do this several times through out the day. Try not to get it in your mouth if at all possible.
6. Tea tree oil will help make it go away in a few days. Keep applying it to the affected area especially before you go to bed so it can sit and soak into the blister.
7. Applying heat to the blister will make it go away faster like using a hair dryer or a hot water bottle. Try filling up a sock with rice then place it in the microwave for 30 seconds and place it on the blistered lip. The heat you use should be dry heat. You do not want to keep the blister moist by using a hot towel or anything of that nature.
8. Acyclovir Ointment is a prescription medication that is used to reduce fever blisters. It helps they area fight off the infection by keeping it from growing.
9. Zovirax is a prescription that comes in pill, liquid, or capsule form. This keeps the virus from getting bigger and spreading.
10. You can get aspirin but not the kind that is coated and grind it up with a few drops of water to make a thick paste you have to do this fairly quick cause it may start to dissolve. Place it on the blister at night and let it sit on the area. Then in the morning clean it off and do it again the next night by then it should be dried out and almost gone.

These are a few home remedies and some prescription as well as over the counter things that may help you get rid of that painful and embarrassing blister you have.
