A fever blister (also known as a cold sore) can become one of the most annoying things around if you have ever experienced one. They burn and cause a lot of pain to the are that has been infected with the fever blister. Not to mention if it is cold outside and you get chapped lips on top of that oh my goodness, the pain is terrible. The fact is no one wants to get a fever blister and they certainly want to get rid of it as fast as possible. Fever blisters are not just painful to have but can become an eyesore for you. You do not want to pick the scab that comes on it or it will just re-open the wound and make it worse. Also you do not want to bite the affected area, you may wind up with a canker sore on the inside of your mouth from the infection in the cold sore.

A cold sore or fever blister is caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 or other wise known as (HSV-1). This is caused by saliva. Either kissing, drinking, eating or anything else you do with your mouth to share your saliva with another. They look like a bunch of tiny blisters in a bunch. They come on any area of the outer part of the mouth or lips. They will go dormant. This means they go away but will come back. This happens normally if the person has a cold or fever or it is very cold and they have chapped lips. You can also have an outbreak if you are stressed out. Do not kiss another person or drink or eat off of some one if you should have one, because they are contagious.

What Are Some Symptoms Of A Cold Sore Or Fever Blister

1. If it is the first time you have gotten this you may have a fever
2. headache
3. You may become nauseous
4. There may be some vomiting
5. There may be swelling and sores in and out of the mouth
6. Some get a sore throat
7. There may be tingling, burning or swelling to the lip
8. Then there will appear to be almost something that looks like a pimple on the lip or redness and swelling, do not try to pop it or scratch it

How Do I Treat A Cold Sore

How long a fever blister lasts depends on how well you treat it. There are so many different ways you can treat a cold sore. You can go to the doctors and have them prescribe you a medication to cure it. There are even over the counter pills, creams, lip balms and liquids that you can take to make them go away quicker. This is as long as you do take the proper precautions when you have one. Make sure though if you are going to take something over the counter you should confirm this with your regular doctor first if you are taking any other medications or just to see if you have any allergies to these types of medications. The first and foremost thing you want to do is take every step possible to not give this to another person and also you may want to inform them that you have one if they want to kiss you or eat or drink from the same cup, utensil, or plate as you.
