What does the Summer do to you Hair

What effects does summer have on your hair? Well, the summer brings the heat, wind, and the sun. The summer may also bring the beach, which means salt water, and the pool, which means chlorine. All of these things can be unhealthy for your hair. Let's not forget that hair does not regenerate in any way (expect for new hair to grow), so any damage sustained to your hair cannot be repaired! How can the summer sun damage your hair? Overexposure to the sun will deplete the keratin in your hair, which will leave it discolored, and prone to even more damage. How does the wind damage your hair? The wind can dry out your hair, and can increase static electricity. How does heat damage your hair? Like wind, heat will also dry out your hair, and harden it as well. How do salt and chlorine damage your hair? These guys are just harsh. The just straight up attack and deplete it, stripping it of moisture, opening of the cuticles, causing split ends, and weakening your hair's integrity.

Summer Hair Care Product Tips

  • Use leave in conditioner with sunscreen in your hair if it is going to be exposed for too long.
  • Cover your hair and scalp with a hat or baseball cap whenever possible.
  • You can put regular sunscreen in your hair, but make sure to wash it out thoroughly with deep cleansing shampoo once you are out of the sun.
  • Try to avoid exposing your hair to additional heat with items such as blow dryers and curling irons. Use leave-in conditioner before using these items.
  • Avoid hot showers. Warm and cool showers will be better for your hair in the summer.
  • Drink plenty of water! Yes, this helps keep hair healthy.
  • Use alcohol-free and formaldehyde free hair products.
  • Condition daily, but avoid shampooing everyday.
  • Avoiding changing hair color, bleaching, and other chemicals in general that you may put in your hair. Many chemicals deplete moisture and can damage hair, so keeping free for these kinds of hair products in the summer will better protect your hair.
  • Trim your hair more frequently. Split ends are more common in summer because of all of the elements that your hair is exposed to. Trimming damaged hair in the summer will help to preserve its overall health.
  • Use hair bands to put your hair into braids. This will help prevent frizz.

When it comes to products, prevention, and plans, these are some of the best summer hair care tips and advice that you can follow to minimize, if not completely prevent, permanent damage to your hair.
