One of the biggest things to remember is planning things out before hand is always what you want to do, if you do not have plans then you may have all kinds of things going wrong along the way.

1. You want to first plan out your trip. Pick where you are going first and fore most. Plan all the stops you will be making along the way, things that you and the family want to see, places you will be staying, where you will be eating and so on.
2. Money. Make sure you will have enough cash for this trip. You always want to have back up cash to in case of an emergency. Maybe your car broke down, some one maybe got sick and needs to see a doctor, an accident happens, some one stole your wallet or whatever else could occur.
3. Find out how many people will be going on this road trip and make sure you have every one accounted for.
4. Use the buddy system if you get out of the vehicle to sight see, eat use the rest room and so on always have some one with you and a phone in case you should get separated from the rest of the group.
5. Before you even consider leaving make sure everything is working properly on the vehicle you plan on taking. Have a full inspection done if necessary.
6. Bring games and things to keep all of you entertained. Ask the kids what they want to bring and have them pack it right away you do not want to get down the road and have your child mad because they forgot their Nintendo DS or something like that. Bring portable board games, cards, toys, have music, books and so on.
7. Bring food and drinks with you. If you can get a cooler and place anything that may need to stay cool in it with some ice. Bring things to snack on so the kids do not get hungry and rambunctious.
8. If it is going to be a very long drive make a schedule of who is going to drive and for how long they are going to. This way one person is not going to get stuck with all of the driving, that can be frustrating for some.
9. Get your packing list out and go over it with each person. Like things you will need if your going camping, fishing, hiking and so on. As you get all of the things together mark them off on your check list.
10. If any one is on medications get a med bag and place them all in there right away . you never want to forget them.

15. Make sure to have a first aide kit on hand.
16. Bring things that suit for weather appropriate timing. Like sun glasses, sun lotion, umbrella, sneakers, rain boots, sandals, and so on.
17. If you have valuables in your car and you are going some place try to hide everything that is worth something. You never want to give a thief a reason to break in. Hide things like a purse, laptop, jewelery, money, credit cards and anything else valuable under other things out of sight.
